Isle of Purbeck - Corfe Castle

Corfe Castle and it´s village are in the midst of a chalk ridge dividing Isle of Purbeck in two geological different parts.

The castle is built on a mound. Million of years ago two rivers flowed north towards Poole Harbour. They cut through a weak point in the chalk ridge, leaving the mound in the middle.
The castle itself was blown up in 1646.
