Singalong

On my travels in Great Britain I was impressed by the tradition of singing together. People are taking their instruments to the pub and all the visitors are invited to sing along. Yesterday I was told that people from those islands in the times before ipods even were singing together on coach trips :)
Inspired by these habits I am happy to announce that I found some friends who wants to sing with me.
Behind the fold are some of the songs we are singing, so take a deep breath and join us!

Fa La La Lan

Viene la Cuarresma, yo no como nada;
Ni como sardina, ni cosa salada.
De cuanto yo quiero no se haze nada;
Migas con azeite hazen me dentera,
Hazen me dentera.

Fa la la lan, fa lan, fa la la lera
Fa la la lan, de la guarda riera
Fa la la lan, fa lan, fa la la lera
Fa la la lan, de la guarda riera

Hey Ho The Wind And The Rain
When that I was and a little tiny boy,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
A foolish thing was but a toy,
For the rain it raineth every day.
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
For the rain it raineth every day.

But when I came to man’s estate,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
‘Gainst knaves and thieves men shut the gate,
For the rain it raineth every day.
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
For the rain it raineth every day.

But when I came, alas! to wive,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
By swaggering I could never thrive,
For the rain it raineth every day
With hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
For the rain it raineth every day.

A great while ago the world begun,
With a hey, ho, the wind and the rain,
But that’s all one, our play is done,
And we’ll strive to please you every day.

John Barleycorn
There were three men came out of the West,
Their fortunes for to try,
And these three men made a solemn vow:
John Barleycorn must die.

They've ploughed, they've sown they've harrowed him in,
Threw clods upon his head,
And these three men made a solemn vow
John Barleycorn was dead.

They've let him lie for a very long time,
Till the rains from heaven did fall,
And little Sir John sprung up his head,
And so amazed them all.

They've let him stand till midsummer's day,
Till he looked both pale and wan,
And little Sir John's grown a long, long beard,
And so become a man.

They've hired men with the scythes so sharp,
To cut him off at the knee,
They've rolled him and tied him by the way,
Serving him most barbarously.

They've hired men with the sharp pitchforks,
Who pricked him to the heart,
And the loader he has served him worse than that,
For he's bound him to the cart

They've wheeled him around and around the field,
Till they came unto a barn,
And there they made a solemn oath,
On poor John Barleycorn.

They've hired men with the crab-tree sticks,
To cut him skin from bone,
And the miller he has served him worse than that,
For he's ground him between two stones.

And little Sir John and the nut-brown bowl,
And he's brandy in the glass;
And little Sir John and the nut-brown bowl,
Proved the strongest man at last.

The huntsman, he can't hunt the fox,
Nor so loudly to blow his horn,
And the tinker he can't mend kettle nor pot,
Without a little Barleycorn

Wild Mountain Thyme
Oh the summertime is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

I will build my love a tower
By yon' pure crystal fountain
And on it I will pile
All the flowers of the mountain
Will ye go, Lassie go?

And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

If my true love she were gone
I will surely find another
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

Let us go, Lassie, go

Down By The Salley Gardens
Down by the Salley Gardens, my love and I did meet.
She passed the Salley Gardens with little snow-white feet.
She bid me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree,
But I been young and foolish, with her would not agree.

In a field by the river, my love and I did stand
And on my leaning shoulder, she laid her snow-white hand.
She bid me take life easy , as the grass grows on the weirs
But I was young and foolish, and now am full of tears.

Down by the Salley Gardens, my love and I did meet.
She passed the Salley Gardens with little snow-white feet.
She bid me take love easy, as the leaves grow on the tree,
But I been young and foolish, with her would not agree.

The Star Of The County Down
Near Banbridge town, in the County Down
One morning last July
Down a bóithrín green came a sweet cailín
And she smiled as she passed me by.
She looked so sweet in her two bare feet
To the sheen of her nut-brown hair
Such a coaxing elf, sure I shook myself
For to see if it´s really there.

From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay
From Galway to Dublin town
No maid I've seen like the fair cailín
That I met in the County Down.

As she onward sped I shook my head
And I looked with a feeling queer
And I said, says I, to a passerby
"Who's the maid with the nut-brown hair?"
He smiled at me, and with pride says he,
"She's the gem of old Ireland's crown.
Young Rosie McCann from the banks of the Bann
She is the star of the County Down."

From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay
From Galway to Dublin town
No maid I've seen like the fair cailín
That I met in the County Down.

At the harvest fair she'll be surely there
and I'll dress my Sunday clothes
With my shoes shon bright and my hat cocked right and
for a smile from the nut-brown Rose
No pipe I smoke no horse I'll yoke,
'til the rust in my plough turn brown
And a smiling bride by my own fireside
sits the star of the County Down

From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay
From Galway to Dublin town
No maid I've seen like the fair cailín
That I met in the County Down.

From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay
From Galway to Dublin town
No maid I've seen like the fair cailín
That I met in the County Down.

Bushes And Briars
Through bushes and through briars
I lately took my way
All for to hear the small birds sing
And the lambs to skip and play
All for to hear the small birds sing
And the lambs to skip and play

I overheard my own true love
His voice did sound so clear
Long time I have been waiting for
The coming of my dear
Long time I have been waiting for
The coming of my dear

Sometimes I am uneasy
And troubled in my mind
Sometimes I think I'll go to my love
And tell to him my mind

But if I should go to my love
My love he will say “nay”
If I show to him my boldness
He'd ne'er love me again
If I show to him my boldness
He'd never love me again

Tiny Sparrow
Come all ye fair and tender ladies,
Take warning how you court your men.
They’re like the stars on a summer’s mornin’
First they’ll appear and then they’re gone.

If I had known before I courted
What all his lyin’ could have done
I’d have locked my heart in a box of golden
And never would have courted none.

I wish I were a tiny sparrow
And I had wings and I could fly.
I’d fly away to my own true lover
And all he’d ask I would deny.

Alas I’m not a tiny sparrow
I have not wings nor can I fly
And on this earth in grief and sorrow
I am bound until I die.

Come all ye fair and tender ladies
Take warning how you court your men.
They’re like the stars on a summer’s mornin’
First they’ll appear and then they’re gone.

Farewell Angelina
Farewell, Angelina
The bells of the crown
Are being stolen by bandits
I must follow the sound.
The triangle tingles
And the trumpets play slow.
Farewell, Angelina
The sky is on fire
And I must go.

There's no need for anger
There's no need for blame.
There's nothing to prove
Everything's still the same.
Just a table standing empty
By the edge of the sea means
Farewell, Angelina
The sky is trembling
And I must leave.

The jack and the queen
Have forsake the courtyard.
Fifty-two gypsies
Now file past the guards
In the space where the deuce
And the ace once ran wild
Farewell, Angelina
The sky is changing colour
I'll see you in a while.

See the cross-eyed pirates sitting
Perched in the sun
Shooting tin cans
With a sawed-off shotgun.
And the neighbours they clap
And they cheer with each blast.
Farewell, Angelina
The sky's changing color
And I must leave fast

King kong, little elves
On the rooftops they dance
Valentino-type tangos
While the makeup man's hands
Shut the eyes of the dead
Not to embarrass anyone.
But farewell, Angelina
The sky's embarrassed
And I must be gone.

The machine guns are roaring
The the puppets heave rocks
And fiends nail time bombs
To the hands of the clocks.
Call me any name you like
I will never deny it,
But farewell, Angelina
The sky is erupting
I must go where it's quiet.

To Try For The Sun
We stood in the windy city,
The gypsy boy and I.
We slept on the breeze in the midnight
With the rain droppin' tears in our eyes.

And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done?
I dare a man to say I'm too young,
For I'm going to try for the sun.

We huddled in a derelict building
And when he thought I was asleep
He laid his poor coat round my shoulder,
And shivered there beside me in a heap.

And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done?
I dare a man to say I'm too young,
For I'm going to try for the sun.

We sang and cracked the sky with laughter,
Our breath turned to mist in the cold.
Our years put together count to thirty,
But our eyes told the dawn we were old.

And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done ?
I dare a man to say I'm too young,
For I'm going to try for the sun.

Mirror, mirror, hanging in the sky,
Won't you look down what's happening here below?
I stand here singing to the flowers,
So very few people really know.

And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done?
I dare a man to say I'm too young,
For I'm going to try for the sun.

We stood in the windy city
The gypsy boy and I.
We slept on the breeze in the midnight,
With the rain droppin' tears in our eyes.

And who's going to be the one
To say it was no good what we done ?
I dare a man to say I'm too young,
For I'm going to try for the sun

Georgy Girl
Hey there, Georgy girl
Swingin' down the street so fancy-free
Nobody you meet could ever see the loneliness there - inside you
Hey there, Georgy girl
Why do all the boys just pass you by?
Could it be you just don't try or is it the clothes you wear?

You're always window shopping but never stopping to buy
So shed those dowdy feathers and fly - a little bit

Hey there, Georgy girl
There's another Georgy deep inside
Bring out all the love you hide and, oh, what a change there'd be
The world would see a new Georgy girl

Hey there, Georgy girl
Dreamin' of the someone you could be
Life is a reality, you can't always run away
Don't be so scared of changing and rearranging yourself
It's time for jumping down from the shelf - a little bit

Hey there, Georgy girl
There's another Georgy deep inside
Bring out all the love you hide and, oh, what a change there'd be
The world would see a new Georgy girl

(Hey there, Georgy girl)
Wake up, Georgy girl
(Hey there, Georgy girl)
Come on, Georgy girl

(Hey there, Georgy girl)
Wake up, Georgy girl

Feeling Groovy
Slow down, you move too fast, you've got to make the morning last
Just kickin' down the cobble-stones, lookin' for fun and feelin' groovy

Feeling groovy

Hello lamp-post, what's cha knowin', I've come to watch your flowers growin'
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me, do-it-do-do-do, feelin' groovy

Feeling groovy

I've got no deeds to do, no promises to keep
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me

Life I love you, all is groovy

Time After Time
Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick,
And think of you
Caught up in circles confusion -
Is nothing new
Flashback - warm nights -
Almost left behind
Suitcases of memories,
Time after -

Sometimes you picture me -
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said -
Then you say - go slow -
I fall behind -
The second hand unwinds

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows - you're wondering
If I'm OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time -

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time

You said go slow -
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds -

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time

If you're lost you can look - and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you - I'll be waiting
Time after time

Time after time
Time after time
Time after time
Time after time

Time after time
Time after time

When You Say Nothing At All
It's amazing how you can speak right to my heart
Without saying a word, you can light up the dark
Try as I may I could never explain

what I hear when you don´t say a thing

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
Theres a truth in your eyes saying you never leave me
The touch of your hands says you catch me if ever i fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

All day long I can hear people talking out loud
But when you hold me near, you drown out the crowd
Old Mr. Webster could never define
What's being said between your heart and mine

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

The smile on your face lets me know that you need me
There's a truth in your eyes sayin' you'll never leave me
The touch of your hand says you'll catch me if ever I fall
You say it best when you say nothing at all

 Flying
Here I am, I'm on my own
for the first time really on my own
So will I make it will it work allright
can I make it through the night

And I go
uuuh, uuuh, uuuh I am flying
uuuh, uuuh, uuuh in open space

Look at me, I´m riding high
I´m the airbornmaster of the sky
And everything beneath me seems to fade
without a trace, without a shade

And I go
uuuh, uuuh, uuuh I am flying
uuuh, uuuh, uuuh in open space

And everything beneath me seems to fade
without a trace, without a shade

And I go
uuuh, uuuh, uuuh I am flying
uuuh, uuuh, uuuh in open space

And I go
uuuh, uuuh, uuuh I am flying
uuuh, uuuh, uuuh in open space

uuuh, uuuh, uuuh I am flying
uuuh, uuuh, uuuh in open space

  3. OK, Farewell Angelina is not sung in pubs, got that :)
For those of you who want to practise singing in a bus - try this link:

People in Germany could even be able to sing in the original bus from The Magical Mystery Tour :)
