Chichester Ship Canal

I was happy to reach the Chichester Ship Canal, boats and the reflection of water, that is something I really enjoy :)
The Canal is navigable and was opened after three years of building in 1822. It runs 4.5 miles from the sea at Birdham to Chichester through two locks. The towpath is cycleable on the whole stretch.

London - The River Lea Valley

Close to the City of London and the West End stretches the southern part of the River Lea Valley. From here you can cruise the canal systems, the River Thames, the River Lea and Stort.
It is very central but as silent as if you were on the country side. I took a walk along the towpath on a sunny morning and got friendly with some cats :)

From Bexhill-on-Sea to Hastings

A grey and damp day. I came through Bexhill-on-Sea which in May 1902 became "The Birthplace of British Motor Racing".
I was more interested in the boats and the equipment of the fishermen, sorry for that mates :)

From Bull´s Bridge Junction to The Islington Tunnel

Thirteen miles on the Paddington Branch of the Grand Union Canal took me from Bull´s Bridge Junction to little Venice. Here I turned into the Regent´s Canal branch of the Grand Union Canal where I went 3 miles to the Islington Tunnel.
Sorry, here comes even more boats :)

From Watford to Bull´s Bridge Junction

Back from Germany I felt for doing a missing part of the Grand Union Canal.
Weeks ago I had been taking the train from London to Watford in order to cycle in direction north.  This time I wanted to cycle the Grand Union down to London.
Tuesday was warm and dry so here we go.
Be prepared for loads of boats and colourful close ups the next 15 miles :)

Narrow Boats

Many different boats are found on British canals and river navigations, narrow boats, barges, lighters, short boats, flats, tom puddings, keels, throws, tugs, dredgers, and more.

Beer

Beer, oh yes, a lovely name, isn't it? Even if I appreciate the english cider, a lovely name for a sweet village. I'm staying here already the second day/night. Beer has a beach full of pebbles, gulls, beach huts, equipment of the fishermen, boats, and deckchairs. So, sorry again, here's a post with all these stuff :) But probably the post will grow later on, with other things. The weather is sunny and warm, and I can take walks along the coast path, either to the left, to Seaton, where I at least found this library with a computer, or to the right.

Exmouth

I can't stay too long because I want to reach the ferry from Starcross to Exmouth. And as always, right in time for the last one :) You can watch Exmouth from this webcam.

Teignmouth

The first town at the sea after Dartmoor is busy Teignmouth. Love to see sweet beach huts and boats again :)
