Sandwich - St. Peter

Read about the church here.

The horse drawn fire tender was bought in 1874 for the Sandwich fire brigade. It was in continuous use in Sandwich and the sourrounding villages until 1913.
With the coming of the Leyland Motor fire engine the horse drawn tender joined it in a major fire at the home of an earl.
After that it was taken out of service, it was restored in 1960. It was brought back to full working order. The tender became a regular feature at local fetes up until 1973 when it disappeared.
In 1981 it was found in the council yard at Eastry.
In 1982 the tender was installed at St. Peter´s Church.
